my little baby boy is 7 now

My boy, N just celebrated his 7th birthday. Hard to believe my baby is 7 years old… I can’t seem to get enough hugs and kisses in lately, because I know that it will come to an end all too soon… He’s such a good boy. And he sure does love his Mom :) I am very blessed.

It wasn’t a big party, like usual… it was my first “single mom” birthday party for him. I didn’t want it to show, I wanted everything to carry on as it always has, but that wasn’t the case. There were a few things that weren’t quite right – not what he/we are used to doing/having at his parties.

But, were survived it. We’re troopers! No thanks to his father, who said we would split the cost 50/50 for decorations, food, and gifts… then bailed out on me a week before N’s birthday. I had to postpone the party another week so I could get another paycheck to cover HIS half that he bailed on. Yeah, I was a little pissed.

But here’s the kicker… he said he would just have cake and ice cream for N at his house, and get him whatever he could afford to get him…. then 3 days before N’s party, he says to me “Why haven’t I gotten an invitaion to N’s birthday party?

I’m sorry – WHAT?! Did I hear that correctly? Once I was able to compose myself after falling out in a fit of laughter I said, quite calmly… “Because you’re not fucking invited….“– I mean, was I wrong to NOT invite the selfish pig?

What kind of moron bails on a birthday party to have his own lame ass cake with his son, but then wants to swoop in and play a role in a party that *I ALONE* busted MY ass on! My ex-husband, that’s who. See why he’s my ex? Oh, just one of many, many reasons… dirtbag.

Then of course, in true ex-dirtbag fashion, he tried to sabatage the party by delivering N home just 45 minutes before the party was scheduled to start. That’s the closest I think I would have ever come to punching that sorry bastard in the face with everything I have, had he made my son miss his birthday party. I wanted to do it anyway. In a bad, badass kind of way!

Once all of that crappola drama he drags around with his Eeyore self ended, we were able to carry on with the party… it was small. No kids from his class came, which was a little disappointing for him I think, but his bestest friends showed up and that was all that mattered. And his WHOLE family (read: MY side of the family) was there. He was a happy kid, that had a great 7th birthday. He wasn’t even aware of all of his father’s antics, and I like to keep it that way.

He got his long awaited Nintendo DS, and I think he was pleased with it. And overall, aside from all of the chaos that I thought would destroy the whole party, it turned out quite well. N was happy, and really, what else matters?

A day of pictures

Yesterday, I busted out the camera and we took pictures.. it’s been a little while since we had good fun with pictures, and we were in rare form… well, okay, I was in rare form… but we had fun. And look, even my flowers like Patron! No seriously, doesn’t a Patron bottle make the cutest little vase? I thought so… I’ll take the stickers of, eventually.

I had some fun with N while my sister took some pictures… He never even knew what was going on. It was so funny when he finally saw these, he couldn’t believe that I “got” him!

Poor kid. I wonder what it’s like to have a retarded mother….

I wanted my sister to try to get a decent shot of me… she said for me to put my hand on the pole, which I immediately thought “How CHEESY”, but I did and this is what she got.. then about a nanosecond later, the wind blew and I felt the power of the cheesiness of my hand on the pole, and well… I worked it…

I really didn’t think she’d catch that, because it was so quick, but… pictures don’t lie! I am cheesy, people! And I have fun being me :)

Then my sister’s boyfriend and N decided to jump off of the porch, and damnit, I didn’t have my shutter speed set right to capture this! It was hilarious, and I think it’s okay that it’s blurry.. you can see how spontaneous it was lol

Then I got a decent picture…

…and decided, I’d had enough. And that it was too cold outside to continue this madness!

Snaggletooth Photoshoot

I took these pictures before N lost his other front tooth, but I wanted to share them because they are my new favorite pictures of him.

A few days after these pictures, we went to my friends house and his daughter came out and was going to hug N, in which case he darted off because you know, girls have cooties!! Well, she’s10, and she caught him and took him down… face first… he came up  with a mouth full of blood, and was completely fine until HE saw the blood (he goes grey at the sight of cartoon blood, no kidding).

I told him the only way to stop the bleeding was to just pull the tooth all the way out (it was barely there, and gushing blood). I had no idea if this was true or not, but the faith of a child is amazing – he yanked the tooth out, and whaddya know, the bleeding stopped! Now I have to get some new pictures of him with the missing front teeth, because I simply adore it. It’s the cutest thing I have ever seen. Besides this….

He did so well with this photo shoot. Believe it or not, it lasted only minutes.. and I promised him that if he would just look at the camera, just LOOK at it every so often, I would take pictures of him doing whatever he wanted when we were done…

Maybe I’m biased, but do you see those eyes? They melt me straight to the core of my being. Why is it that boys always get the most beautiful eyes and eyelashes? Oh wait, I know the answer to that…

Anyhow, it was killing me – the way the light was reflecting in his gorgeous eyes, so I had to get as many shots as possible. Once I was sure I had at least a handful of decent ones (the ones I’m showing you are my favorites!), I let him do his thing…. I cannot speak for him, I can only say in his defense, he is my son, and he is 6 years old. Here is his pose of choice…

Makin’ Memories

Saturday was a good day.

We started bright and early with L and her daughter and did a few hours of garage sales. We didn’t walk away with much, but it was still good times. Then N had a soccer game. After that, we (N and myself) headed to the Parish Fair for a little Mommy & Me time. It was long overdue.

N is not necessarily one to ride rides, and strangely enough, I am okay with that. Not really strange at all – I don’t like riding rides. Especially the ones at little fairs like this. I did my time suffering through the rides with L back in the days of Junior High School – I am done. N has apparantly inherited the lack of love for rides from me, because his father loves them. Still, I am okay with this fact. I’m more than okay with it – at least I’m not forced to ride them with him.

So, it goes without saying that we spent most of our time on games. Well, N spent his time playing games, I spent mine encouraging him, cheering him on, and snapping photos of him. The boy certainly loves to play some games. He doesn’t even care so much about the prizes – thank goodness, because they really suck. He had a real blast going from game to game and very quickly emptying my pockets. It was worth every penny though, to me, to see him have such a good time. And on top of that, we were making memories together, and nothing can replace that.

Once my pockets were nearly empty, we got snowballs and walked around to sightsee a little. We ran into a few people we knew, chit chatted a bit, and carried on. Eventually we found our way to the cows. Man, did it ever stink!! However, I wanted a picture of Noah with a cow or two in the background, and he was very hesitant… He wouldn’t back up anymore than he already was, so I backed up some (I had cows behind me, too!), and managed to snap this picture right after he realized that the cow behind him was kind of eyeballin’ him…

I love that picture. The pure excitement on his face embodies the day for me. This little trip to the rinky dink Parish Fair holds memories that I will treasure for the rest of my life, and I hope he will, too.

The Spongebob Tooth Trick

Just when I didn’t think my boy could get any cuter, he goes and proves me wrong. It started two days ago with this…

Which, okay, I admit… it’s not all that cute – the Spongebob tooth, I mean. That’s what it reminds me of… but, you see it poking out? The end result is what’s cutest. Just bear with me…

In all honesty, this kind of freaked me out. I suspect that the way I overindulged him by acting a complete fool when he did this little Spongebob Tooth Trick is the underlying reason why he held on dearly to it for TWO WHOLE DAYS.

He loved doing it… I would scream, and pretend to shudder and start yelling “Get that tooth outta there! C’mere, Let me get it! Oh stop, stop! You’re killing me! I’m going to faint!” And he would double over into a fit of laughter. But really, I might have fainted. There’s something very… unnatural about this… kid… of mine…

Finally!! We were sitting at the kitchen table, I was doing some Twilight chatter across the table with L, and N was eating dinner and all of a sudden “MOM!!” and I looked and if it’s possible for the tooth to be any MORE loose than it already was, it was. Trust me. It was STILL there. I started my panic screaming and L chimed in and I guess with both of us being absolutely chaotic and mildly retarded together, he decided to pull it. Then we whooped and hollared, and he was a happy camper.

But back to the cutenss factor… I’m totally diggin’ the snaggletooth look on my boy. Mostly because, I’m dreading those two front teeth coming in… hopefully he won’t have inherited his mother’s ability to grow teeth the size of chiclets in his mouth.

New Orleans Cemeteries

They are among the most beautiful I have ever seen. Ever since I can remember, and long before my first ever digital camera, I have had a strong desire to go to the city to get some shots in the cemeteries there. I’m sure most people wouldn’t find them beautiful, but they captivate me, completely and entirely. Maybe someday soon, I can visit a few. Especially this one, since it not only captivates, but intrigues me due to the mere fact that some filming from Anne Rice’s Interview With The Vampire was done there…
