may hogs

I know, it’s been quite a while since I have posted. Believe me, it’s certainly not due to a shortage of humor from my son! He says more hysterically funny things than even I can remember, but I know I have to start back posting, so I thought why not here? Why not now?

Why not give you a taste of what is to come?

A taste. Like. Mayhaws. As in Mayhaw Tree. Or maybe the Louisiana Mayhaw Association. But I bet you were thinking mayhaw jelly.

As it turns out, my ever curious son just noticed mayhaws on the ground in the backyard. After a slough of questions, he decided he wants to make mayhaw jelly just like Aunt A does. Of course, this is no easy task and not one I look forward to, but for my son? Psh – anything. The best part is that everyday now he comes home and says:

“Mom, I’m going to go look for some more mayHOGS in the yard so we can get enough to make that mayHOG jelly……….”

Picking Up Mayhaws

IMO, it’s too cute to bother correcting. Before long, he will not be making these cute, childish mistakes and yes, I will miss this. I will never rush him into being more grown up, I love these days too much.

Even more, I had never meant to love him. One thing I truly knew – knew it in the pit of my stomach, in the center of my bones, knew it from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet, knew it deep in my empty chest – was how love gave someone the power to break you.
I’d been broken beyond repair.
